Marlee was born from a simple tension.

For decades, our founder, Michelle Duval, worked at the intersection of elite human motivation, performance, and work. Through research and coaching, she saw first-hand just how much people thrive when they are understood — and how often they struggle when they aren’t.

Again and again, the pattern was the same. Performance issues weren’t about attitude or motivation. They were about misalignment — between people, teams, and systems that no longer reflected how work actually happens.

At the same time, meaningful support at work remained unevenly distributed. Insight, coaching, and development were typically reserved for a small group — leaders, executives, or elite performers — while most people were left to navigate increasingly complex workplaces on their own.

As work began to change more fundamentally — through hybrid models, generational shifts, and the rise of AI — that gap widened. The old systems kept running. People adapted. Friction, burnout, and disengagement followed.

Marlee was created in response.

Built by a team of behavioural scientists, data scientists, engineers, and coaches, Marlee brings human understanding into the everyday flow of work. It combines research-based models, large-scale motivation data, and AI to help individuals, teams, and organisations see how they work — and make better decisions together in service of a shared mission. 

In 2020, we launched agentic AI, Coach Marlee, to help all people and teams to collaborate and perform to achieve their goals. With a 4.4-star customer rating, Marlee coaches to over 1,000 different types of goals to support work, career, leadership, financial, well-being, and relationships. 90% of people achieve their goals within just four weeks!
